Mission of Love: Accomplished!I closed my eyes, let my "mind screen" go blank, and then waited a moment to see if I would get a hint as to whom I should speak to today. I saw an English Bulldog walk toward me down a walkway from his home. He stopped, looked up at me briefly, as if to say: I'm here if you want. Then he turned around and began walking back, not wanting to put any pressure on me to "choose" him. "If you want, I'm here," I heard him say. I remembered there was an English Bulldog in the Speak! Freestyle gallery, so I headed over to there, and sure enough, I came face to face with Chunk, who is now in spirit. When I tuned into him, I felt a lightness, a floatiness that feels nice and free. He feels good now, whereas in physicality he felt a heaviness. I feel he was very "grounded" or burdened with issues he was taking on during his life in the name of helping and love, but he says that's what he was here for — and was uniquely prepared to do. He was steadfast, not stubborn. He was resolute, not single-minded. I commented, "It sounds like your mission on Earth was a success. You accomplished your goals, did what you came here to do." I saw all of this through his very focused, unsmiling expression. Then I asked, "But was there joy?" He was emphatic, "Oh yes. The love I received, the family time, being included in my family's lives, were among my greatest treasures." Indeed, I feel Chunk has a heart of gold and shared so much love in his own way. A very sweet soul despite what his "bulldog" looks might say to someone who doesn't know him. His body type made it more difficult to maneuver in life, but it was perfect for why he was here: to provide a grounding presence for his family. They could count on him. He was steadfast and reliable. He wasn't going to run away or do anything unpredictable. He was just going to be there to be love and be loved. "What did you like?" I asked. I see a rawhide bone or stick, treats that look like little hot dog rolls, dry food. He didn't like "greens" but it feels like they were good for him. He liked sitting outside on the porch watching things. He says he was a good watch dog. He wants me to speak for him, to write words for him. I told him I won't create the message, but will be happy to record one for him. He asked me this earlier and I had suggested first finishing the current train of thought. Now he is coming back and saying, "Can we write the letter now? Can we?" So here it goes… Dear family, Gruffy here. You gave me such a wonderful life. I know our time together was too short, but I went into this life knowing it would be. I also knew it would be rich, and happy, and loving, and full of humor and good times. Didn't we have those? I know my body didn't like things like baths and long walks, but I loved it all, deep down. It was all part of the experience. I know another dog will grace your/our home and I welcome him! He is not replacing me, he is another part of the family. An extension, someone to carry on the love mission that I was on. Go easy on yourselves. Let the fun and love flow. Life is meant to be lighter — that coming from someone who wasn't the lightest in physicality. But that was by design, to show that you can still lead a light life, no matter what things seem to look or feel like. Those are only restrictions in your mind. I hope that was clear during my time with you. Ooh, I really like this letter-writing thing! I am more intertwined in your lives than you know. We have been together before and we will be together again. I cherished this occasion. Anyway, watch out for Chunk — Super Chunk — and keep it light even when things feel heaviest. Love you guys, Chunk. "Well, I feel lighter!" said Chunk. "Thanks for helping me express that." "You're welcome! You brought such a beautiful perspective and presence to your family's life. I'm honored to have witnessed a bit of it in this way." I wondered, "Anything else?" "I'll let you know if anything else comes up. You know where I live," he said. I see him continuing up the walkway toward the house I saw at the beginning of the conversation. He's happy and contented and home. Feedback from his family:You captured the essence of who Chunk was perfectly. For my husband and I, Chunk was the center of our world, and to receive a letter from him tells us that he is still very much with us. His personality was exactly as you described - steadfast but easy going. He lived to be nearly 8 years old, and with him, every day was special. The heaviness you described could mean a few things - of course he was physically heavy and not so agile due to his breed. Like you mentioned, he had no use for long walks or baths. Also, he passed away due to cancer which resulted in a large mass on his underside. He just wanted to be with us, and no matter what we were doing, he was content. You mentioned another dog taking his place. Shortly after he passed we got a female bulldog, followed by another male, who is like Chunk in so many ways. We have said 100 times - "I hope he doesn't feel as though we replaced him." And hearing it word for word from the letter - he is someone to carry on the where I left off. We say that all the time about our new dog. He has so many of the same traits, but in his own way. Everything from your reading is accurate, and perfectly encompasses who he was and his approach to every day life. He was happy and dependable, lazy and loving. Thank you so much for sharing your gift, and thank you for choosing Chunk.
