A Well-Healed Dog. After browsing the Speak Freestyle gallery, the sweet face of Duke the lab mix called to me. "Hi Duke! My name is Josh and…" Before I could finish, Duke inserted in a friendly, not rude, way, "I know who you are are. I heard you were coming." "Who did you hear from?" I asked curiously. "My people, other animals. So how does this work? "We just talk like friends would. It's just for enjoyment," I explained. "But you're doing it to learn," Duke pointed out. "Yes, I'm working on learning a 'new language,' but it's still supposed to be for fun, not feel like work or anything like that." "Okay," he said amiably. Duke's energy is calm, gentle, and contented. He feels very caring and good-natured. He also says he's a healer. I asked how he heals. "I'm 'there' for people. I'm accepting. I'm loving. I'm sensitive, so I can pick up on the smallest issues that are troubling others. I visualize a happy conclusion and send it to them. It does make them happier and calmer." I was interested in learning more. "Can you give me a real-life example of something you've done recently?" "That's between the Patient and the Healer," he said seriously but with a lightness. "I'll just say that it works." "Have you always been a healer?" I wondered. "Well, we all have the potential to be healers. Some of us don't go down that path. Some of us are drawn to it because it feels good to help. When I came to live with my people, I was grateful and wanted to show them how much I love them. The healing came naturally." "People talk about how dogs offer unconditional love. Is that the same thing?" I asked. "It's the basis, but healing is more about the intention." "So sending love simply because you love and accept someone doesn't have the same effect as if you accompany that with the intention to heal? A desire to see a particular positive outcome?" I tried to clarify. "Yes, that's right!" said Duke. "Do you teach others?" "I've taught others over the years, if they wanted to know. Some were curious and asked." "How did they know you are a healer?" "They can feel it. They feel I am doing something different, so they ask, 'What are you doing?' So I explain. Some want to know how and I show them. It's not complicated. Just a change in intention." "Surf 'n' Turf""Do you have other interests other than healing?" I worded the question this way because it felt like Duke is a healer not by "profession" or that he came into this life with that as his mission, but it's just something he enjoys doing. "Oh, all the typical dog stuff. It's all good. I love the beach." I see him on a beach, enjoying the breezy sea air with a smile. "But I love the grass, too. You know, Surf 'n' Turf!" I see an aquarium that he also seems to enjoy watching. I also see him munching on Nori (seaweed). "Anything else you'd like to talk about, Duke?" <shrugs> "I don't think so. I'm a pretty straight-forward, simple guy. Easy to please!" "I can see that you are. I'm so happy you are having a good life." I got a flash of some pain/joint stiffness. He doesn't really want to focus on it because he just wants to be here to help and make his people and home happy. It's not about him and any of his issues, so he didn't want to mention it. He sort of pushed it away or shrugged it off. So, maybe explore some light massage, energy work, or joint support supplements? I write this as a note to his people. He is looking relieved and grateful when I write that. "Well, Duke, it was great to talk with you and get to know you a bit." <sends me love/healing> "Enjoy the surf!" I called. <gives me the surf's up sign with his paw>
