This is my first foray into the world of body scanning. It's a way to try and discover if an animal is experiencing any trouble areas in the body. There are several ways people typically do this, plus many variations. One is to envision yourself shrinking down into a ball of light or energy and entering the animal's crown chakra, then embarking on a tour of the body, part by part. Another way is to actually embody the animal, feeling what it feels, seeing what it sees, and thereby knowing first-hand what's going on in the body. A third way is to scan each body part from the outside, getting a sense of pain points or other sensations. And like I said, there are many other variations of these methods. I have a feeling I will discover my own in time! For this first time, I'm going to try some of the methods above... I always like to introduce myself to the animal and explain what I'm doing and to get an approval. I would hate to invade someone's personal space without asking! "Hi Lezli, I'm Josh. Your mom is in a group of caring people who are learning to help animals through body scanning. She volunteered you to see if there's anything we can do to help you." "I don't like the sound of that. What do you mean?" said Lezli. I explained, "Body scanning is just a way to see inside of you. It's a way to try to find out if there's anything that hurts or that you need help with." She replied, "I don't need anyone inside of me. I can just tell you." Hmmm. So, body scanning is out. What do I do now? I decided to just go along with Lezli's offer. "Okay. Are there areas that bother you?" I asked. She shows me a stiffness in her legs and back. I didn't exactly feel any of it, but I just got an awareness of issues in those areas and a knowing that there was pain or stiffness. "Anything else?" I continued. "Some pain when urinating." At this point, I was starting to doubt myself, especially since I wasn't really body scanning right now, just talking and listening. I decided to end the conversation and go back to the group and check what some of the other students had come up with. Feedback: Turns out, I was on track! Others also doing a scan got that she was annoyed to be in this position. And others picked up the stiffness and problems urinating.
