"Are you ready for this, Chaz?" I asked. He nods up and down a few times while repeating, “Yep, yep,” in a good-natured, positive way. I continued, "What do you think of being involved in this practice project?" "I very much enjoy it," he answered. "But don’t you get to communicate in this way to all the other animals and critters around you whenever you want?" I wondered. "Oh yes, but that’s natural. *This* is super-natural! Helping people to talk is special. Plus, it makes the day interesting." "What else do you like to do in your day?" I queried. I tried to picture some options in case I can get a positive “hit” on any of them… running with a herd, exploring a meadow… doing tricks/training… None of them really “lit up.” So he explained, "I have simple tastes. I enjoy interacting very much. Being a part of things. Even if it’s just hanging around near the activity. Being present for it all." It feels like he enjoys watching and observing. I wondered what he enjoys eating and I see what looks like a wheel or cake of cheese? I have no idea what that is! I offer a virtual apple and carrot and neither seem to be of too much interest. Then I’m shown something that looks like a potato and some smaller nutty things. None of these “foods of interest” have seemed like food horses usually eat or even can eat (though I don’t know), so not sure where they are coming from. "Are you just playing with me, Chaz?" I asked. "No. I quite like odd food choices," he assured me. "Do you have any special friends?" I wondered. I see a darker horse with an interesting white marking on its forehead down toward the nose. I hear the word/name Rumby or Rumba or something like that. "What else would you like to talk about, Chaz?" He replied, "Well, what’s it like where you are?" I try to give him a short visual tour of my surroundings: forested, with squirrels, deer, dogs and cats. I tell him the forest is probably not ideal for a horse, but there are definitely places near here ideal for horses (I picture some of the farms and stables). He said, "Well… I don’t know about ideal. Horses aren’t meant to be cooped up in a stable or yard. We were born to run free." I felt bad about that, so pointed out, "From your photo, it looks like you have a nice space to run and roam, don’t you?" "Oh yes, like I said, my tastes are simple. I’m just saying…in general…horses are made to run free." "So life is good for you?" I asked. "Oh yes, (nodding up and down), it’s good. I’m well-taken care of. I have what I need." "Anything you don’t have that you would like?" I get a visual of him eating peanut butter? Seriously, what’s with all the strange food choices in these conversations! So I asked: "Really? Peanut butter? How do you know about it?" "It’s in the travel brochure," he says with a slight wink. His personality is very genial and easy-going with a touch of breezy, lightheartedness. I wouldn’t say big sense of humor, just leaning toward it. "Nice speaking with you, Chaz. Thank you for helping today!" "It’s over so soon?" He asked "I don’t think so. There will be more people coming by to talk every so often. I think it’s just begun!" I assure him. He again nods enthusiastically and he feels satisfied. Feedback from his person:You’ve certainly got Chaz right. He loves to hang and interact. Always wants to check things out and just ‘be’. Apparently the nuts are cashews, so I’ll buy him some and let you know how we go. Chappy (the parrot) was asking for a Krispy Kreme peanut butter donut, so Chaz was obviously listening in, and that’s where he got the peanut butter from. He has a great work ethic, and wants to work with me as much as he can. I’m glad he enjoys working with humans, as not all of mine do LOL Well done!! Regarding the darker horse you were shown: Bloody hell! You’ve just warped my fragile little mind. That was Califia, she was one of mine, and I had to PTS her several years ago. I rarely hear from her as I’m way too close to get anything, so I’m glad he chats with her. Thank you for that, you’ve made my day!
