Mystery is a cat I spoke with during the first Challenge. I had been having some pretty incredible conversations with animals, but was still feeling like I was making it all up. So when I got to Mystery, instead of an interesting conversation, I began a fact-finding mission so that I could verify things with her people and know that I was actually connecting. She didn't appreciate that one bit and let it be known! I told her I'd come back for a more interesting conversation. Today felt like that day. "Hi Mystery." I tried to sound cheerful, yet toned-down, but I was also a little nervous because of our last experience together. She simply looked at me and said, "Redemption?" "Yes," I laughed. "I always felt bad about that last talk we had. So I thought we could catch up and see if we can have a better conversation." She paused to think, let out a big sigh, and said, "Better late than never." I was still getting an "attitude" vibe just like last time. I tried to ignore it and chalk it up to my imagination. A Moving Story"Last time we talked, your family was planning to move. How did that go?" I tried to move forward with a subject she might like. "I don't like travel — and that one was unbearably long. I'm not that particular about where I live. Give me a home base and let me get my bearings and I'm happy." I was curious what her new place looked like and was about to ask and suddenly got the visual of what initially looked like a long, narrow, white tunnel-like hallway with fluorescent lighting. There was a movement to it that just kept going and going. Then I realized it was the inside of a plane cargo area. I think Mystery was showing me her experience going to her new home. She had just one view of the white interior of the cargo from her crate and a feeling of movement that went on forever. "Ugh. I'm sorry you had to go through that, Mystery. That sounds like hell," I commiserated. "That wasn't worth it in my opinion," she agreed. "Do you like your new house?" I asked. "It's big. And warm." It felt like she liked it. "Do you want to show me around?" I asked. That felt like a tiresome chore to her, so I quickly said, "Or how about just your favorite place?" I got a visual of the backyard which had a hot tub in the middle of it. The exterior of the home was brick. There was lots of greenery. But I was wondering why I was seeing this when I asked her about her favorite place. It didn't feel like she was an outdoor cat. "This is what I see," she said simply. I saw a little nest area near a window sill looking out into the backyard. The washer and dryer were nearby and I think she liked the warmth of the spot and the views. "What else would you like to show me, Mystery?" I continued. "We're doing the tour-thing again?" She asked, clearly connecting this time with the last I had done that. "No, we can talk about whatever you want," I assured her. She thought for a moment, then said, "Let's talk fish." I got a visual of her eating fish like a connoisseur. It sounded like she wanted to go into detail on this subject and it sort of felt like it was a little "dig" at me since I don't eat animals and she knew I wouldn't be thrilled with this subject. And I told her so. "I just wanted to see how committed you are to making amends," she told me. I wasn't sure I liked her attitude. "There's no reason to be mean-spirited," I said. "The whole reason I came back is to make things right with you and to see if we can begin anew — with a friendly conversation." A Fresh ApproachI didn't like where this conversation was going and was wondering if this all was true. Would a cat really have this attitude through telepathy? What would she have to gain? I thought I'd try to infuse some love and good thoughts into the scene and see if that changed things.
I imagined warm sunlight enveloping Mystery and her surroundings, sort of purifying everything. This visual quickly began morphing on its own and became almost like a big bubble bath, where bath bubbles enveloped everything and washed it clean. Then Mystery emerged from the bubbles. Her coat was shorter and clean and her energy was loving and friendly. She walked right up to me and sweetly nuzzled me. "What was all that about?" I asked her. "I have a hard time letting go of the past," she answered. "All that stuff just keeps hanging around me. I feel much better now. Free. Thank you." "Wow. I'm so glad that worked," I answered, still a bit surprised. She began again, this time with a more youthful, yet grounded voice. "You were asking what I wanted to talk about." I could see a whole array of possible topics swirling around her head, waiting for her to settle on one. I was thinking, "Finally, she gets to talk about something meaningful to her." Instead, she looked at me and said resolutely, "And I want to talk about you." "Me?" I questioned. Just like that she is going to give up her platform to talk about me? "Yes, you. You have a special mission. I want to make sure you see it through." I do have a few projects that are sort of on the back burner and my mind flashed to those, and one in particular. "Yes, that one," confirmed Mystery. "You will create this bridge that spans universes," she said. Here, "universes" meant individual universes — the personal worlds we all create for ourselves — not THE universe on the grander scale. But when I wrote that last part, I got a little nudge that there actually is a connection with the universe on a grander scale. "Your love will be the bridge. Your ideas will be the glue. Your vision will be the direction-finder that will lead them there." She continued, "Only you can do it in just this way. Others may get similar messages, but I am talking to you. You, who will make a difference. You, who will lead a way. Don't sell yourself short. There are lots of us watching, waiting, knowing. You have support in all the right places. Follow your heart and even your mind and you will get there." I understood everything she was talking about, but I was wondering if she would also give me specifics about how to proceed or what to do. So she said, "I wouldn't take that fun away from you. The dreaming, the imagining, the exploration is where the good stuff is at. You know that! You're on your way." I heard what sounded more like a "pre-thought" that said "Make us proud," but then like a computer cursor, it backspaced to erase that and said, "You already have." Mystery then jumped up onto my left shoulder and then onto something higher up in the house. "See? No Mystery here," she said as she headed off somewhere with a casual attitude that said "My business is done here." I stood there in her house, a bit stunned at this turn of events and message. Where did it come from? Did I make it up? Is it from my ego? My higher self? Some other place that was speaking though this cat? For the moment, I decided to just accept it, appreciate it, and be grateful. That's today's story and I'm sticking to it. Thank you for the gift, Mystery. Redemption.
